Why Some Believers Experience More Spiritual Warfare than Others
There are some believers who falsely believe that if they have a lot of faith they will not undergo any suffering, severe tests or satanic attacks. Nothing could be further from the truth! Actually, the opposite is true. For example, in the Book of Job chapters 1 and 2, God actually asks Satan if he considered His servant Job. Hence, God brought Job to Satan’s attention, not because Job was in sin, but because Job was the greatest servant of God on the earth at that time (read Job 1:6-12; 2:3-6).
Furthermore, Acts 19:15 illustrates how Paul the apostle was not only known in heaven, but also in hell! He had their attention! First Peter 5:8-9 teaches that Satan roams the earth seeking someone to devour, which also goes along with the Job narrative (Job 1:7). When we read the context of all these passages, especially in regards to the satanic focus on both Paul and Job, we can come to the conclusion that the devil’s main focus is to thwart, divert, distract and disarm the servants of God who are promoting the rule of God on the earth as it is in heaven. Heaven is the only realm in the universe where everything is perfectly aligned under King Jesus, since the devil was displaced from there (Revelation 12:7-12).
Consequently, when someone on earth wants to bring the influence of the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven, Satan erupts with fear and anger against them since he doesn’t want to be thrown out of another place!
This is why it seems as though a person following the will of God will sometimes have the most difficult tests, trials and resistance, as opposed to some saints who are casual seekers of God. Satan is no dummy, why should he attack a Christian who is a bad example to others and who is already deceived and in his grip? He will focus the most on those who are the biggest threats to his desire, to do a power grab from God over the earth realm! Remember: God gave Adam a commission to have His rule over the whole earth (Genesis 1:28), and immediately after that the devil came and convinced both Adam and Eve to disobey God and abandon their posts as God’s vice regents over the earth (Genesis 3:1-8).
Since that time Satan has been jealously attempting to protect his control over the earthly realm he stole through subverting Adam, including its systems of government, commerce, media, the arts, science and education. Those who attempt to bring God’s influence in these realms will most likely experience some of the highest levels of satanic resistance. The apostle Paul had a messenger from Satan follow him everywhere he went that caused riots and persecutions (2 Corinthians 13:1-8), only because he was turning the present world system upside down (Acts 17:7).
So, if you are sold out for God, don’t be discouraged when you are attacked or allow yourself to be deceived into thinking that the only reason you are in intense spiritual warfare or tribulation is because you may have missed God. It may be the opposite. You are being targeted because you are hitting the divine bull’s eye! This is why Paul admonished believers to stand strong in the Lord: “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers and the rulers of darkness in high places” (Ephesians 6:10-13). Notice: Paul said “our struggle” meaning he was including himself in this struggle. Every time there was an open door for ministry he had many adversaries. This is a biblical principle (read 1 Corinthians 16:9).
Do not ever think that just because God is calling you to do something that it will be easy. Jesus did the will of God and He was crucified, and church history tells us Paul was beheaded! It’s not how many years we live, but what we do with the years we live that matters!
So, what do we do when we are in a time of spiritual warfare that Paul calls “the day of evil” in Ephesians 6:13? Paul tells us in this passage to be strong in the Lord and to stand firm; in other words, do not quit (Ephesians 6:10-13).
The apostle Peter also tells us to resist the devil, standing firm in the faith (1 Peter 5:9). Peter knows firsthand that faith in God is the key to standing firm in the midst of the day of evil because, when he denied Christ three times, Jesus prayed for him that his “faith” would not fail (Luke 22:31-32).
So, do not be afraid when you are in tribulation, because Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33)!

Excellent article!
Well said Bishop Mattera! If there was an area of extreme IMBALANCE in the Body of Christ on a particular subject matter, it is this one on spiritual warfare.
Well said. It is so noticeable right now, the intense battle God’s warriors , the end time saints, are engaged in on a daily basis. The assaults of the powers of darkness launching attacks on God’s elect warriors and their families, finances, health, relationships, jobs, etc. is intense, indicating the nearness of the return of Jesus, The Christ,…. Messiah,… King of the Universe!!! How very important it is for us to be in agreement with God, for His KINGDOM to be ON THE EARTH as it IS IN HEAVEN!!! God bless you 24/7 Bishop Joe !!!!
Amen!
Beautifully compact and to the point. Armor on! Many of us are in very turbulent waters, with test after test coming in more frequent waves. Yet, at the same time as we look to Jesus, it is greatly encouraging to discern His presence ever more clearly hour after hour, day by day.
Thanks I needed to hear that!!
Need to spell “believe” right in the title.
There is more peace and joy walking a hard way with the Lord, than an easy way without him. We can only live one moment at a time. We cannot bring our yesterdays back, however sweet they were, and tomorrow is not guaranteed; so let’s make our moments bright with joy and peace by following in the Master’s footsteps.
The battle is on we have already won. Satan just doesn’t believe it yet. Hahaha. I have surely pissed him off. Hahaha.
I face it all day long here in Osaka, Japan. The Spirit is moving here and I’d like to ask all people who can pray to pray Luke 10:2, that the Lord of the Harvest increase His laborers here in Japan. Please pray for Japan to become a Christian Nation.. In the 1580’s, the population of Japan was about 14 million with a combined population of registered and non-registered Christians being 3 million. Did you know that at one time 21% of Japan’s population was Christian? Wow… Current population is 100 million with 500,000 Christian. 250K being Catholic and the remaining 250K a mix. It seems that the U.S. helped build the new infrastructure after the war, but somehow forgot to help establish the Chief Corner Stone (Eph2:20). Jesus is moving in this country and as saints we can propel this movement forward with constant prayer and spiritual warfare for this nation… Please pray Isaiah 26:20 that God will hide this nation while the indignation passes. Pick a city in Japan to start praying for. I hope you will pick Osaka!!! If not Nagasaki…God Bless and Long Live Our King Jesus!!!
Amen Joseph!
A DUE SEASON WORD!
There is a teaching that since the victory of Jesus has conquered, we do not need to fight. We need to learn how to walk in this victory. And then from a position of authority (at the right hand of the father) we will be able to command disease and disasters. and then the evil one does not touch the believer. Do you agree, bishop Mattera?
Nice
Awesome article.
Glad this article was a blessing!
Amen!!!
Jesus told to Ananias about Paul saying; I will show him ( Paul) how much he will sufer for my name. He also said to apostle Peter how he will die, others will lead him Where he would’nt go. So we have to see that our God has personal way for everyone. But there is a general will too. So please don’t mix those things. We easely overlook sometimes over some verses that don’t fit in our teology. We need whole counsel of God but rightly devided. Jesus also told Peter concerning apostle John: that’s not your busines if I want him to stay till I come again. So Jesus has personal and general (written word) will for everybody. Take example of labourers of lest hour. First labourers worked whole day but those last one only one hour and rhey got same pay check. Jesus said also in gospel of John about harvest that they will enter in something people before them worked out. It is not the same for everyone. I agree that we gonna have pressures and trials in life but Jesus is still on thw throne. We have to push back those things by looking on Jesus. God bless
Is that why I am going through hell now??..although that will NOT be my ultimate destination!
The attacks are really relentless ove rthe last several years..But I am still serving the Lord..and still ALIVE and well in CHRIST!
Won’t let me log in. But I sure have had a long hard fight on my hands
Such a good word.
Amen.
I Loved this and It Gave me even More of a Perspective on being a Follower of Christ. Thank You!
I don’t know of any believers who, thinking they have a lot of faith, will not have any hardships. On the other hand, I do know believers who realise the importance of being in faith to overcome during their hardships. The problem is that there are too many believers who are not in faith at all and not only do they fail completely during their times of trials and tribulations but some of them are even paralysed with fear and unable to work or function properly. We all need to have faith to overcome in any situation – we’re talking about trusting God to get us through our circumstances victoriously instead of capitulating and giving in to the world, the flesh and the devil (including all the demons). I sincerely hope that our faith will be at the level necessary to overcome during all our times of hardship. This is what God wants for us that we trust Him and fight to remain victorious or obtain the victory. It’s a fight of faith. “Without faith, it’s impossible to please God…”
This WORD has truly encouraged me….Thank U LORD for imparting wisdom unto Bishop Mattera and other like him Bless them to Bring GLORY and Praise to your NAME
Great and encouraging biblical Word!
