Job 40:7

Introduction

We are living in a cultural moment where manhood is under assault. Masculinity is mocked, fatherhood is diminished, and spiritual leadership is portrayed as unnecessary—or even oppressive. Society is attempting to emasculate men by shaming strength, belittling responsibility, and redefining manhood according to passing trends rather than eternal truth.

Men are often berated for being masculine—ridiculed for being protectors, providers, leaders, and pillars in the home. Yet Scripture paints a very different picture. God calls men to stand up. When He spoke to Job, He did not say, “Lie down in your fears,” or “Blend into the culture.” He said, “Gird up your loins (or stand up) like a man, and I will speak to you.” (Job 40:7)

God wants to raise patriarchs again—fathers who break generational curses and establish generational blessings, men who lead their families with courage, integrity, and spiritual authority. A nation cannot rise higher than its men. A family cannot rise higher than its fathers. And the kingdom of God advances when men stand up and take their rightful place.

This message is a call for every man to rise—to stand up on your feet, hear God’s voice, and walk in biblical manhood.

12 Ways to Stand Up Like a Man:

1. Be the Spiritual Leader of Your Home

God designed men to be the spiritual thermostat of the household. Adam fell not because he lacked strength, but because he lacked spiritual leadership. A man stands up when he leads his family in prayer, Scripture, worship, and example. Your home will follow your walk with God.(Psalm 128)

2. Let Courage Overcome Fear by the Word

(Joshua 1:9)

God told Joshua to be strong and courageous—not because Joshua felt brave, but because God’s Word was with him. Biblical manhood refuses to bow to fear. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is obedience in the face of fear. Men rise when God’s Word becomes their backbone.

3. See Life Through the Lens of the Word

(Joshua 1:8)

Culture is loud, but Scripture is clear. A man who meditates on the Word day and night sees life differently—he makes wise decisions, he prospers in his ways, and he stands firm when storms come. You cannot stand as a man if you view life through culture instead of Scripture.

4. Protect the Weak

(Acts 20:35)

Biblical strength is not for domination but for protection. Real men defend the vulnerable—their wives, children, church, and community. Strength without compassion is tyranny, but strength used to protect is Christlike.

5. Be Great in the Kingdom by Serving Others

(John 13)

Jesus washed feet. The greatest man who ever lived modeled greatness through servanthood. Kingdom masculinity does not boast—it bends low to lift others up. A man stands tall by kneeling to serve.

6. Speak Up and Defend Those Who Cannot Defend Themselves

(Proverbs 24:11–12)

Silence in the face of injustice is cowardice. God calls men to be righteous voices—defenders of the unborn, advocates for the oppressed, protectors of the innocent. A man’s voice is a weapon for good.

7. Live a Life of Integrity

(Proverbs 11:3)

A man’s character is more important than his charisma. Integrity holds a family together. Integrity builds trust. Integrity pleases God. When your private life matches your public confession, you stand as a true man of God.

8. Provide for Your Family

(1 Timothy 5:8)

Provision is not just financial—it is emotional, spiritual, and relational. A man provides presence, protection, stability, vision, and care. God wired men to carry responsibility as shepherds of their households.

9. Manage Your Strength in Meekness

(Matthew 5:5)

Meekness is not weakness; it is strength under the Spirit’s control. A meek man is unshaken, disciplined, and slow to anger. Meekness gives men authority because their power is surrendered to God.

10. Endure Hardship Like a Soldier

(2 Timothy 2:3)

Men are called to endure—to stay faithful when it is hard, to push through when others quit. Soldiers don’t entangle themselves with distractions; neither should men who belong to Christ. Hardship is not a sign of failure—it is training for godly influence.

11. Disciple Your Children

(Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Ephesians 6:4)

Your greatest legacy is not your career—it is your spiritual and biological children. Every man is called to be a discipler. Teach them Scripture, show them how to pray, model Christlike love, train them in righteousness, and raise them to fulfill their God-given calling. What good is it if we win the whole world and lose our children!

12. Face Contemporary Challenges with His Strength and Might

God is calling men—fathers, husbands, brothers, sons—to rise up again. To reject passivity, overcome fear, walk in integrity, and lead with courage. The church needs strong men. Homes need godly men. Children need righteous fathers. Generations yet unborn need men who will stand up today.

When God said to Job, “Stand up like a man,” He was speaking to every generation of men who would rise to advance His kingdom.

Men, despite the present global challenges, this is our greatest hour! We were born for such a time as this! Let’s meet the day and face every challenge in the strength of the Lord! Only when we stand up like men will we fulfill our divine destiny and reach our generation for Christ.
