Text: Romans 10:13-17
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “LORD, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The Bible teaches that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Thus, it is imperative that God’s people learn how to cultivate faith in their daily walk. It is also imperative that those who are not yet in the Body of Christ have the opportunity to experience faith for salvation.
I. Romans 10:13: Whoever calls on the Lord will be saved.
Salvation according to Acts 4:10-12 also includes divine healing, as well as forgiveness of sins. Thus salvation includes the process of accessing God by faith to intervene on our behalf against all our enemies including illnesses, the demonic, poverty, etc.
II. Romans 10:17 teaches that faith comes by receiving a personal word from the Lord.
It is not a mechanical formula of naming and claiming something. It is completely based on having a relationship with God and hearing His voice in a personal way.
III. Some take Scriptures like Mark 11:23-24 out of context and think that faith is just a force or a formula that can be accessed whenever you want and for anything you want if you can simply visualize it and confess it constantly.
Because of this, there has been much foolishness in the name of Christ that has brought shame to the Gospel!
For example, I remember when I first came to Christ many people were claiming this and that all the time. There have even been recorded instances of parents not giving their child medication because they presumptuously believed their child was healed, with the result being the child’s death.
IV. Romans 10:17: Because it is a personal word, then a person must connect with God personally in order for them to receive faith for something.
Thus, your desire has to be synonymous with the heart of God before you will have real faith to believe for something. John 15:7; Psalm 37:4: God will not grant you your desires unless you love what He loves and delight yourself in Him.
V. Live a lifestyle that regularly cultivates an atmosphere of faith.
A. Time alone worshipping and seeking God enables your heart to connect to Him and hear a personal word from Him.
B. Invest time meditating on the Word of God so that the Scriptures will come alive and personally speak to you.
C. Consistent attendance at Sunday services and home groups will enable you to hear the prophetic voice of God through an anointed preacher or teacher.
VI. Those who do not know the Lord cannot and will not call upon the Lord for salvation if they do not hear the word of Christ from us. Read Romans 10:14.
VII. The word of faith works for salvation, for forgiveness of sins and physical healing, and deliverance from demonic oppression.
Let us allow the Lord to demonstrate salvation today in our midst. If the Lord is speaking to your heart and you have faith in the cross of Christ for forgiveness of sin and/or physical healing and deliverance, come forward and receive the reward of your inheritance.
